The Aboriginal Housing Committee –
British Columbia (AHC-BC) would like to
acknowledge and respect Betty Aslin
who passed away on July 26, 2010. AHC-BC provides
advice on operations and strategies to CMHC,
INAC and BC First Nations to improve First Nations
on-reserve housing. AHC-BC has tackled many signifi
cant housing issues and Betty was an important
member of AHC-BC who brought a professional
community housing perspective.
Betty is one of a small group who was truly an
expert at her career. She tackled the diffi cult issues
of on-reserve housing with stubborn determination
and admirable intelligence. Betty was a strong and
committed woman who gave her personal time
and resources to support the work of AHC-BC.
She brought a straight forward and enthusiastic
approach to her work with AHC-BC. On-reserve
housing has lost an important advocate and all of us
who are trying to improve on-reserve housing will
miss her.
On behalf of AHC-BC and all those involved in
on-reserve housing in British Columbia we thank
Betty Aslin and offer our deepest condolences to
Betty’s family and friends. Based on our experience
at AHC-BC we can only imagine the richness and
strength that she must have brought to all others
and we are sure that she will be missed in her other
circles as well.

It is with great sadness that the family of Don Clark
announce his sudden passing of a heart attack on July
8, 2010. Don was 76.
He is survived by Gwen, his loving wife of 56 years,
and their three daughters, Wilma (Brian) Woods, Lesa
(Eldon) VanKoughnett, Gail (Joey) Morgan and grandchildren
Lindsay, Gregory, Bradley and Lanaray.

Marjorie Roberta Gordon nee Ponsford
July 6th 1953 – April 29th 2010
After a courageous eight-month fi ght with cancer,
Marjorie quietly passed away surrounded by loving
family and friends. A gentle woman whose humour
and selfl ess love for others brightened many lives, she
was the rock of our family. Deeply missed by husband
Keith who nursed her tirelessly, daughters Misha James
(Travis), Andrea Jesney (Mark), and Sarah Howse (Jason),
son Thomas, granddaughters Kira and Luka James and
baby Howse on-the-way, sister Sheila Redding (Les) and
mother Hilda. Also fondly remembered by numerous
other family members and many dear friends. Predeceased
by beloved father Raymond. Her family wishes
to thank the staff of Stuart Lake hospital, the Evangelical
Free Church and the community of Fort St. James.

parents, brother, sister, and son.
The family held a celebration of life on April 9, 2010.
We would like to thank everyone for all the help,

It is with great sadness that we annouce the passing of Ruth Baxter on March 27, 2010. Mom died comfortably in the company of her children at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in
Victoria, B.C. Survived by children Daniel, Lisa, Sean (Maria), Michael (Terry), Alan (Debra); step children Alanna (Dave), Lee (Cory); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Mom was predeceased by her mother, Violet Westaway,
sister June Chaisson and former husband, Alan Baxter.
For the last twenty one years, Mom lived in Victoria, B.C. near the ocean which she loved. Mom was passionate about issues of social justice and the environment.
She enjoyed the outdoors, her books, time in the garden, her pets Chilli and Peppurr and spending time with her family and friends. Mom’s feistiness, sense of humour and
her generous heart will be greatly missed by all who
knew her. There will be no service by her request. In lieu
of flowers, a donation in Ruth’s name to the charity of your choice would be welcomed.
