Peter was born May 26, 1935 and grew up in Banff with his family. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters Jean (Mike) Salter, children Andrew and Rachel (France), Shirley (Jeff) Baines, children Lucy and Christopher and his brother Peter Tolmie and daughter Kelly (United Kingdom). <br>A determined young man from Newcastle, England, Bob began apprenticing at the age of 15 years as a cook in the hotel and catering industry. After receiving his certification, he went on to work at some of Britain’s finest establishments before setting his sights on Canada. <br>It was in the spring of 1966 that Bob stepped off the train and started a new life in Banff, Alberta. <br>Humble beginnings and hard work were what led to his success as the “Consummate Restaurateur”. Bob’s personality and generosity extended far beyond the doors of Smitty’s Restaurant into the lives of his friends and his community. He spent his life in Banff in the mountains that he so dearly loved. Dad enlisted in the RCAF in 1940 to serve his country. He trained in England and flew in 33 missions before being shot down over France, spending 3 years as a prisoner of war in a Stalag camp. He survived The Forced March before finally coming home. When he returned to Banff he met and married the love of his life Bernice Wilson, together they raised three daughters Lynn (Fred. Pratt of Ottawa, Bunty (Richard) Allan of Creston, BC, Christie Wilson (Jack Potman) of Banff. Dad loved fishing and spent many hours at Marble Canyon and many other mountain lakes and streams, never missing to hook a few. As a young fellow Dad played hockey in town, whether at the arena, on lakes, rivers and street hockey by his home on Rabbit Street. Dad also loved golf and was an honorary member at the Banff Springs Golf Club. For many years he hosted Thursday Rotary golf and many tournaments. Dad was an active volunteer for many groups in Banff and served on the Chamber of Commerce, The Rotary Club and was a 65 year veteran member of the Legion. Dad is survived by his sister Marjorie Goodman of Vancouver, sadly missed by his 5 grandchildren; Marnie (Aaron) Sands, Stephen (Christina), Gillian & Warren Pratt and Kimberley Grams and 1 great grandson, Seth Sands and nieces and nephews. Ashdown passed away peacefully at St. Martha’s Place in Banff on Tuesday December 8, 2009 at the age of 87 years. <br>Predeceased by the love of her life, Larry in 2002, she is survived by her sister Marguerite Madden and her two children, Gary (Jackie) and Cathy, her four grandchildren Adam, Angela, Chad and Desiree and numerous loving nieces and nephews as well as her sister-in-law Marguerite Holloway.  Eileen was predeceased by her sister Doris (Harold) Williams and two brothers Frank (Dorothy) and Eric and her brother-in-law Frank Madden. <br>Eileen was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec the youngest child of Mary and George Holloway.  After the war she met Larry and he instantly became her soul mate.  Marrying in 1949 gave them lifelong love and happiness together.  Their love for each other shines through in their children, Gary and Catherine and in their relationships to their extended family and many dear friends. <br>Eileen was a talented artist and enjoyed taking classes with Donna Jo Massie.  For many years, Eileen and Larry were active members of the Ralph Connor United Church and the Canmore Seniors Association as well as the Three Sisters Branch #3, Royal Canadian Legion. <br>Eileen was extremely proud of her grandchildren.  She always welcomed them in her open arms and enjoyed sharing her love of life, laughter, and her quick wit. <br>Wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt. <br>Loved by all. <br>Eileen was known for her beautiful smile and twinkling blue eyes.  Eileen made everyone she met feel special.  She lovingly touched many lives. <br>Funeral service for Eileen was held Tuesday December 15, 2009 in the Ralph Connor Memorial United Church in Canmore.
