She was born of missionary parents in West China, attended medical school in Toronto and practiced medicine in Hazelton and Terrace. <br>She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Ralph Hayward, brother Robert and foster daughter Tia Azak. She is mourned by husband Don, sisters Donna Klassen (Henry) of Vanderhoof, Helen of Ottawa and Joanne (Germaine) of Haida Gwaii. Also by her sons Kevin (Nadina), John (Anna) and Paul (Carlene) and daughter Christine Idy (Joe). He passed away on August 14, 2010 at Terraceview Lodge, surrounded by loved ones. <br> <br>Alex was born, raised and lived his entire life in Terrace. In the 1940\'s, he formed a company called Houlden’ s Cartage with his father and brother and Houlden Logging came to be in the 1950\'s. Alex ran this company until 1989, when he turned it over to his sons. He was also a partner in Tower Logging (coastal logging) with John Sarich. <br> <br>Alex was dedicated to the community of Terrace and served time on the boards of the Northwest Logger\'s Association, the Terrace Health Care Society, the Terrace Co-op and the R.E.M Lee Foundation, where his pet project was the first CAT Scan at Mills Memorial Hospital. <br> <br>Alex\'s great loves were his kids, grandkids, boating on the coast, gardening, dogs, reading history books, teasing, and most of all, his wife, Judy, whom he referred to as \"the prettiest girl in Terrace.\" <br> <br>He leaves behind his daughter, Terry, sons Larry (Shelly), Ken (Anita), and Earl(Mona). Grandchildren Warren (Kerri) and Ryan (Bryn) Kluss, Jaime Houlden, Angie (Darren) Bell, Luke (Candace) Houlden, Buddy and Hayley Houlden, Great Grandchildren Hannah, Alexa, Jake, Sebastian, Desiree, Sarah, Jamison, Mary, Ashley, sister-in-law Bettye and numerous nieces and nephews. In 1983, Wilf instigated the building of the Rosswood General store, which he managed until his death. <br>  On August 6, Wilf died peacefully of heart failure while outside with his dog. Skye will be dearly missed by his wife Stacey and their three children, Lachlan (12), Madeleine (8) and Elise (4) as well as his father, Alan of Terrace, brother Joe and wife Peggy, nephew Drew and niece Paige of Cranbrook, and sister Sharon and her husband John Boe of Vancouver. Skye was predeceased by his mother, Mary. <br>   Skye was born in Kitimat and moved to Terrace at the age of six with his family. Upon graduating from Caledonia Sr. Secondary, he attended the University of Victoria, graduating with a BA in English, certification as a high school English teacher and qualification as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor.   <br>While teaching ESL at UVIC Skye met the father of one of his Japanese students and together they opened an English language school in Tokyo, The Skye English School.   <br>1994 brought Skye and his wife Stacey back to Victoria where Skye completed a Master’s degree in Linguistics.  Skye and Stacey welcomed their first child, Lachlan in 1998, and moved to Alberta where Skye began teaching at Bert Church high school in Airdrie. It was at Bert Church that Skye pioneered a Japanese language program and a philosophy program, two of the first for high schools in Canada.  The couple bought an old farmhouse in nearby Carstairs and in 2001, their second child, Madeleine, was born, followed in 2006 by Elise.  <br>    Skye was a renaissance man in every way: quoting Shakespeare while renovating his old house. He loved being a teacher and contributing to the betterment of his students lives. Most of all he loved being a father and spending time with his children.  <br> Two educational trust funds have been set up for Skye’s children. We are thankful she did not suffer.  Marie was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Loris Harrison, and her brother Montie.   <br>She is survived by her brother Bill and sons, Cliff (Rita) Mills and Sid (Joanne) Mills and her grandchildren Kelsey, Jaimie, Geoffrey, Brent and Craig. <br>In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Jean C. She also was a member of the Happy Gang and donated her time to volunteering. She loved her game shows and her No. 1 passion was doing crossword puzzles. Lorna had a passionate love for life and will always be remembered for her loving smile. As a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, niece, cousin and dear friend, she will be sadly missed. <br>We thank Dr. Fourie, Dr. Meyburg, Dr. Kenyon, Dr. Karpiak and all the nursing staff for making Lorna feel comfortable and pleasant during her stay in hospital. He was the 5th youngest of 13 children. In 1950, at the age of 19, Al joined the Canadian Navy in Prince Rupert, serving on the HMCS Athabaskan and HMCS Prestonian for 5 years, 2 of which were in Korea. He was on leave when he met his future wife Betty, while travelling to Vancouver by Greyhound. Letters went back and forth for a year from around the globe and after discharge they were married on November 1, 1955. <br>In 1962 Al and Betty moved to Terrace, where five of his brothers lived. He opened Al’s Electronics in Terrace after completing a one year course at Devry Institute in Toronto. After this venture he used his natural aptitude for mechanics and and became a heavy duty mechanic with Operating Engineers, receiving his 45 year pin in June of this year. He worked on several projects in the Northwest as a supervisor including Eurocan, Fairview Port in Prince Rupert, Chetwynd Gas Plant, Prince Rupert & Powell River Pulp Mill, with Dillingham Corp & Foundation - Skansa. <br>In retirement, Al & Betty managed the Sleeping Beauty Lodge Medical Hostel, and for 12 years following he worked for DaSilva Developments.Al was a proud Legion Member for over 15 years.  <br>He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, sons Mark (Bev), Craig (Brigitte), Todd (Cam); Daughters Heather and Jody (Dwayne) Dreeshen; seven grandchildren and 2 great grand-daughters. <br>Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care Al has received over the years. Dr. Lakhoo and Clara, Drs. Strangway, Kenyon and Karpiak, Terraceview respite staff, home care workers, Rachel from Life Labs for her home visit once a week, I.C.U. and emergency staff. <br>Your love and tender care of Al is much appreciated. <br>Thank you to all who have taken the time to show you care, by phone calls, food, cards and flowers (etc.). <br>A special thank you to Dave Bartley and Steve and Delin Sawatzkey, Jan and helpers at the Alliance Church for the lovely tea.
