Gerry will also be fondly remembered by all her nieces and nephews and all her close friends in the “Girls Group”. Gerry had fought a courageous battle against many debilitating ailments over the past number of years. Her spirit remained strong, but the time had come to be pain free and peaceful again. <br>Gerry was raised in New Westminster, where she graduated from High School and completed Normal School, receiving her Teaching Certificate. Gerry obtained her first teaching position at Como Lake High School in Coquitlam in 1955. She taught briefly before the children started to arrive, going back to Substitute Teaching later on in life in the Coquitlam and Maple Ridge School Districts. Gerry was a very kind and loving mother who guided and nurtured her children during their perilous path to adulthood. Gerry was a true homebody, never really wanting to leave their “Fairweather Haven” on Alouette River in Maple Ridge, their home for 27 years. She was an avid gardener, loved to entertain in their home, was a devoted foster parent, and served on various municipal committees in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. Gerry also “mothered” her many dogs and cats throughout the years. Gerry was an active member of the Hammond United Church in Maple Ridge for many years. A service will be held at Hammond United Church - 11391 Dartford Street, Maple Ridge at 12:00 pm. - Saturday, August 28, 2010. Luncheon will follow.
